Emily Dwyer wins The Parramatta Prize category.
The Song Comp has its first category winner to announce.
At a night of excellent entertainment, provided by the songwriters and performers who performed live at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta, Sydney songwriter, Emily Dwyer, was awarded first place for her song "Because Its Love".
The standard of songs presented on the night was very high, which gave the judges a tough job to split such a fine field.
Congratulations to all the finalists, and thanks for providing such an entertaining night.
In attendance were: Sue Duchesne (CEO Song Central/sponsor), Ned Kulasin (CEO Carlingford Music Centre/sponsor), George Mannix (Director of City Animation, Parramatta City Council)/sponsor, Stevie Knight (Director Electric Sun Studios/sponsor), Allan Caswell (award-winning songwriter/judge/sponsor), Emily Dwyer, Lea Goodrem (CEO Goodrem Ent/judge/sponsor), Stewart Peters (CEO Soundshed Studios/judge/sponsor), Rico Soto (CEO Oxygen Music Group/judge/sponsor), Duncan Hill (President TSA/judge), Steven Tagliaferro (songwriter/judge).
Congratulations, Emily, on winning The Parramatta Prize section of The Song Comp 2103.
Congratulations to all the finalists in The Parramatta Prize category, who entertained a packed room at the Riverside Theatre, March 2nd, 2014. They provided a tough proposition for the judges, by delivering such a high standard of songwriting, across the board.
The Parramatta Prize is a special section of The Song Comp.
It has been co-ordinated by the Director of City Animation for the Parramatta Council, Mr. George Mannix, who has arranged for the Council to donate a cash prize of $2,500.00 towards the prize pool.
This is an excellent prize, and opportunity for songwriter entrants from the Greater Western Sydney area.
The total prize package includes:
- A "Category Winner" certificate
- Inclusion on Songsalive! Australia's TASTE CD
- Designer shirt by Nakhle Shirts Parramatta (wardrobe “The Great Gatsby”)
Entrants to the competition, who live within Greater Western Sydney, are automatically eligible to be included in the running for this prize.
As with all other categories of The Song Comp, the songs are judged on their merits, but as an added facet of this section, each song were judged during a live performance by the song writer, or a singer interpreting the song.
The judging of the Parramatta Prize

- When: Sunday March 2nd - 6:30 pm
The thirteen finalists performed live in an acoustic setting, before a panel of six judges, who come from various areas of the music industry.
